How many questions are on the Life in the UK Test?
Twenty-four multiple-choice questions, 45 minutes, drawn from the official study material for new residents.
The short answer
The official Life in the UK Test has 24 questions. You get 45 minutes to answer them and you need 18 correct to pass. Every question is multiple choice, and every question carries the same weight — there is no section that counts for more than another.

What the question types look like
Most questions ask you to pick one correct answer from four options. Some ask you to select two answers from four, and you must get both right for the mark. Some are true or false statements. A few ask which of several pairings is correct — for example matching a nation to its patron saint.
Because the "choose two" and "true or false" formats catch people out, our papers guarantee at least two of each, so you meet every shape before test day rather than on it.
45 minutes for 24 questions — is that tight?
No. It works out at nearly two minutes per question, and most people finish well inside the time. The clock is not the difficulty; recall is. If you are running out of time in practice, it usually means you are second-guessing answers you already know.
Do the questions repeat between sittings?
The official question bank is confidential and is not published, so nobody outside the Home Office knows how large it is or how it rotates. If you fail and re-sit, assume you will see different questions.
Practise in the real format
Every paper on this site is 24 questions with a 45-minute timer and a pass mark of 18, so your practice score means something. You can flag questions, jump between them with a navigation grid, and review every answer with an explanation afterwards.
